About.

My photo
Visual Journalism Student/ Photographer/Fashion Blogger. I love finding beauty where others don't, and I believe art can be found almost everywhere. Old and new, we can learn from all, and getting to a place where you can realize that is probably the most freeing a person can feel ever. But basically I love Fashion, and the designers are the artists with visions and their canvas' are us and the world, and I love helping spreading that message. "Ultimately isn't that fashion is about? We're all a bunch of big kids playing dress up." Feel free to e-mail me @ andrewwwhester@gmail.com to talk about anything!

Crochets, Cut outs, Florals, & Modern Prints, Oh my... - Marni - Missoni - Versus - SPRING 2013

MARNI SPRING 2013

Marni was full of body conscious silhouettes, florals, peplums, deep V cut necklines, and a new approach to the little black dress. The modern like prints and pattens that seem to brought from the history books. The low drop from the waistline in the dresses is reminiscent to me of the designs in the 1920's and a simple art deco like feel.

MISSONI SPRING 2013

It seems that the Missoni girl has finally stepped into the modern fashion age while still staying Missoni. Classic crochets and light/warm ombre effects at the beginning of the collection. The thing about Missoni is that there could be not one look with a bit of color and it would still be a classic collection full of life...based solely on the technique and intricacy that comes along with the houses legacy. Yes, there were capris, and I'd rather not talk about them because I have never been a fan of a 3/4 length pant. In my opinion, those 3/4 lengths look better on arms. :)

VERSUS SPRING 2013

Pops of color everywhere. Mod floral prints with cut outs throughout the collection. The collection looks very sleek in texture and the SS13 crochet trend is present as well. Pop art color palette references with the 3D like overlay prints resembling the Wonderbread logo bringing all the primary colors into play. No surprise that the collection is full of color being a spring collection and also being designed by Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace, but everything about this collection is perfect from the silhouette to continuing SS13 trend of the mod like hem line.

Photographer, Niall O'Brien took a trip of spontaneity with the world of McQ up the Western U.S. coast to create campaigns pairing small town scenery with raw imagery to create genius works of art and branding. CFDA VOGUE Fashion Fund Time!

The CFDA/VOGUE Fashion Fund is one of the most prestigious awards given out to designers on the rise who will eventually blow up into a Fashion World Phenomenon ( as shown by previous winners, such as Proenza Schouler and Alexander Wang). Along with the title, which states (a fund is involved), the winner is awarded $200,000 to establish their brand and is pretty much given mentoring from inside the Fashion world to succeed and make themselves more well known.

This year, Alabama Chanin, which is based in Florence, Alabama itself, has been nominated for the second time for the award and will hopefully win.
Fabric and stitch work are a big deal and when it comes down to it, it is looked at as a quality of a designer's work as a whole. If something is poorly made, it can look rushed or thrown together, and who wants to wear clothes will eventually fall apart and not stay around and be classic pieces forever?!

This is definitely not the case here, Natalie Chanin, who started quilting and then moved onto to clothing, has an eye for quality, and it is clear in her work.
Check out the Alabama Chanin blog! (Alabama Studio Style)

Not only because I am from Alabama, (which I do not like to bring up unless necessary), because most know that Alabama is not close to a mecca for Fashion, do I want Natalie to win, but mostly because I have actually done my research on the designers nominated, and I feel that her work is the most precise, detailed, and inventive, and that's what matters most right?!

Others I considered for the award were Gary Graham, (1st photo below), Simon Spurr of Spurr (2nd photo below), and Patrik Ervell, (3rd photo below) (yes, the last two are
Menswear designers, and that's why I like them,)
but I still feel that Alabama Chanin can take the win this year!
Check out all of the nominees here.
The winner and runner-ups will be announced at a gala in NY on Nov. 16th.

& who knows, maybe I'll be able to interview Natalie herself
one day(?!)...that would be an amazing opportunity. Fingers crossed.

UA. Vs. TN. Gameday Style

Vintage McQueen and Anew.

Ok, So apparently I'm behind on my "Style Icon" family tree research because I have just recently been brought to the attention that THE Steve McQueen has a grandson, whose name is STEVEN McQueen, and he's already in the Hollywood spotlight. He is on the CW's Vampire Diaries, which I have not watched, so therefore maybe a hint to why I don't know who he is...UNTIL I saw that FLAUNT Magazine (which did not have the profile on their website, but oh well. =/) did a profile piece on him.

Anyway, now that I've been informed of this possible/hopeful passing down of Classic Style through the genes of McQueen, I will now be on the lookout!

The New Modern Trench Coat?

Is the "Marching/Military" jacket trend that has been sweeping the Fashion World by storm these past few Seasons going to become a Classic piece or is it already?

The concept of the jacket itself seems to have been around for a while, even when Michael Jackson was first blowing up into a Phenomenon, he was sporting the trend in the 1980's. He also kept the trend going up to his recent death by wearing the new modernized version that which most know about now from Balmain.

I honestly think that Balmain is the one to receive credit for modernizing the jacket into such an Iconic piece for the Millennium and Michael Jackson for bringing the trend to the spotlight over his time of reign as the King of Pop.

In Conclusion. I DO truly believe that this will be an Iconic piece for both Men and Women to go down in Fashion History along with the Burberry trench and Thigh-High Boot.
