Fashion Films for Fall 13/14

There is a controversy over this short fashion film for the Louis Vuitton FW13/14 collection. The collection was presented with models exiting what were perceived as hotel rooms in the looks which we're slanky, yet sophisticated sparking a tagline as a "Vuitton slumber party". Apparently that was not the vision Marc Jacobs had in mind after seeing this video featuring some of the seasons featured beauties, most importantly Cara Delevingne. I remember seeing prostitutes during my visit to Paris, but they were not in town cars and most definitely not in Vuitton. The collection was beautiful nonetheless, and I see no reason for an uproar when the clothing and the sexiness they exude should be the focus. 

GIRLS creator and star Lena Dunham has had quite a year with her golden globe win and overnight success of the show reaching out to the twenty something's of the generation, (and almost an every household name). Now she's having a family affair with her next project for Rachel Antonoff's Fall 13 short film. Rachel Antonoff, NY designer and Jack Antonoff of FUN's sister, (dating Lena Dunham) has become a household name herself in the fashion world. The film features Antonoff's designs from the FW13 line, Dunham's sister, Grace (also from Tiny Furniture), along with a narration by Girls' own Adam Driver. The collection looks great and Dunham captures the looks with everyday freshness and not too much like you're waiting for a surprisal sex scene. Kidding...

The Girls, Lena Dunham wore a floor length royal blue Prada gown, and co-star Allison Williams wore an emerald structured gown with peplums by Oscar de la Renta.

 

Printed Beauties

Once Upon a Time's Ginnifer Goodwin was a presenter tonight, and sometimes the presenters have the best looks! She wore a bright red/orange floral vine like printed Monique L'hullier gown and it works perfectly. Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss wore a very fitted floral gown from Dolce & Gabbana. Both of these ladies look stunning with their daring printed dresses.

 

More Classic Styles

Award show veteran Julianne Moore wore an eye-popping yellow gown from Raf's first collection for Dior, (a dress I knew would be worn to an award show this year when it was shown this past summer in Paris). Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery wore a fitting deep blue dress from Louis Vuitton. The look- especially with the touch the sheer top half- goes perfectly with her up-do.

The History of the Marc Jacobs hat is a journey that has been with Jacobs' persona through his line. The accomplished designer has used hats to express his ideas and visions into his collections. While also pulling the reigns at Louis Vuitton since 1997, and progressing the couture line with his collaborations with artists such Takashi Murakami and Richard Prince. The work of Marc Jacobs has become a recognizable work of art within the world of fashion. The hat adds to the telling of the story the collection is expressing.

Whether it's "Marie Antoinette" - (Fall 2012), "Mary Poppins" - (Spring 2009), highly paid escorts - (Fall 2011,Vuitton), eerie/artsy nurses (Spring 2008, Vuitton in collaboration with Prince) they all seem to complete the looks. Imagine how differently the collection would be seen without the hatwear.

The hats in the Fall 2012 collection MAKE the looks and bring a certain image from the hat as an accessory to a main attraction of the outfit. Jacobs' styling with looks is impeccable and the way of pairing pieces with looks can create a look with 7 complete pieces involved.

Only true artists can see their vision for what it is.

Bold colors, big hats and scarves, and the always play on print on print is there and always on point in flattering the female figure while staying sophisticated at the same time.

Marc Jacobs earned his reputation as New York fashion's consummate showman and then some tonight. The set was spectacular and huge. Dreamed up at the designer's request by his friend, the artist Rachel Feinstein, the construction paper folly looked like a broken castle. "Marie Antoinette's version of ruins," she said. A pretend fountain was perched halfway down the curving runway. But we weren't in eighteenth-century France. Seventeenth-century Plymouth Rock meets the twenty-first-century street-style scene is more like it. Jacobs' models wore pilgrim shoes, of both the flat and stacked heel variety, affixed with giant rhinestone buckles. And their wild outfits, the designer said backstage, were inspired by the likes of Anna Piaggi and Lynn Yaeger, fashion eccentrics of the first order and mash-up artists long before the Sartorialist arrived on the scene. Piaggi has never gone anywhere without a hat, and Jacobs had some doozies on the runway. Made of multicolored mink, they tilted this way and dipped that, like something out of Dr. Seuss. The getups were just as off-kilter: Wool stoles were buttoned over wool coats worn on top of patchwork skirts above cropped pants. Colors were all over the map; prints ranged from oversize paisleys to floral pencil doodles, and holographic appliqués dripped off dresses. Tinsel turned up everywhere. And volumes, in marked contrast to his strict, severe collection of a year ago, were turned up, too. Padded hips? Prepare yourselves, ladies. It was fearless, just like Piaggi, Yaeger, and co. And it made you fall in love with fashion and Marc Jacobs all over again.

Paging Betty Draper to the Runway...

I can't believe it has taken me this long to get into AMC's Mad Men,

but now that I have started watching,

(beginning Season One right after Black Friday and currently starting Season Four)

...I'm HOOKED.

Betty Draper has got to be one of my favorite female lead characters in television now. Not only does January Jones (-future Versace Spring11 Ad Campaign model) portray the 60's depressed housewife perfectly, she started bring back the 60's "open umbrella under the dress" look way before this past Fall season when it was shown again Paris & Milan with Louis Vuitton and Prada.

That is the other reason I am posting this...it is so sad to me that I am just now picking up on this trend besides the fact I don't know how many times I have passed the ads this season in about 20 fashion editorial magazines.
